When we launched Infinite Sound House, our vision was ambitious: create, publish, and promote innovative music that blended human creativity with cutting-edge AI technology. We wanted to work with digital vocalists alongside real instruments and human artists, establishing a new model for music production that was more equitable and forward-thinking than traditional approaches.
We went all-in on this vision, producing 15 original songs spanning various genres, creating accompanying videos, and developing thought leadership about the future of music production. Everything was going perfectly—until we hit an unexpected roadblock that would completely reshape our business.
The Challenge That Changed Everything
As we prepared to distribute and monetize our music, we discovered a critical problem: our AI-generated content wasn't eligible for copyright protection.
The U.S. Copyright Office had established that purely AI-generated content lacks the human authorship required for copyright protection. Streaming platforms were beginning to implement policies restricting AI-generated music. Without clear copyright protection, our innovative tracks existed in a legal gray area.
This wasn't just a legal technicality—it was a fundamental threat to our business model. Without copyright eligibility, we couldn't

Our innovative tracks were essentially "up for grabs," despite all the creative effort we'd put into making them unique and compelling.
Rolling Up Our Sleeves
Rather than abandoning our vision, we got to work. We dove deep into copyright law, particularly the human authorship requirements, and developed a process to add strategic human creative elements to our AI-generated tracks.
The goal was to establish copyright eligibility while preserving what made our music special in the first place. We tested this approach with our own catalog, iterating and refining our process until we found the perfect balance between legal requirements and creative integrity.
As we shared our experience with other creators in the AI music space, we realized we weren't alone. Many innovative producers using AI tools were hitting the same roadblock, uncertain about how to protect their work in this evolving legal landscape.
